Your Stay in Germany

Your School

The school year in Germany begins between August and September, depending on the German federal state, and the second term in January/February. We provide placement options in public schools and in private schools (with school fees). Some schools have special entrance requirements (minimum grade point average, required language levels).

Most of our partner schools are in the Lake Constance region. This region is perfectly suited for the first longer stay abroad. You will adjust quickly into the new environment in the small-town setting!

Your host family

We know all of the homestay families personally, and the families have all gone through a rigorous selection process before joining our homestay program. These are not always families in the traditional sense: couples without children or those whose children have already left home can also host students. The language spoken in the home is always German, even if our homestay families often can speak other languages as well.

You have your own room, but you share a bathroom and other common rooms with the family. Usually, guest students have their meals with their homestay family. On school days, the students eat lunch in the school cafeteria.

What our participants say

  • Maria G. F. from Medellín, Colombia

My name is Maria G. F., I'm from Medellín, Colombia and I'm 16 years old. From December 2018 to June 2019 I had my exchange stay in Germany: one of the most wonderful experiences of my life.

The CDC played a very important role during my trip because they helped me a lot with my language, I always had someone with me when I had questions. The best thing was the new sights and activities I got to know and do in their leisure program. Every week we did something different and I always had fun.

  • Felipe from Mexiko

I am Felipe, and I was 15 years old when I came to Germany. First I spent 2 months at the Carl Duisberg Centrum Radolfzell to improve my German!

There I not only learned the language, but also got to know many cities, for example Stuttgart, Munich, Basel etc. and met lots of nice people.
